Lissadell House, Sligo, is the family home of Countess Markievicz, (1868-1927) the first woman ever to be elected to an Irish Government. As well as been involved hugely in the political turmoil of the time she became a patron of the arts. Her close friend W.B.Yeats lived nearby and together they staged many a fine production in the Abbey Theatre, Dublin.
